Background of the Study
Tax administration is a critical function of local government authorities, as it generates revenue needed for public service delivery and development projects. Effective tax administration requires robust accountability practices to ensure that tax revenues are collected, managed, and used appropriately. Konshisha LGA in Benue State has faced challenges related to tax evasion, poor revenue collection, and lack of accountability in its tax administration practices. This study will explore the existing accountability practices in the tax administration process in Konshisha LGA and assess their impact on revenue generation and public service provision.

Statement of the Problem
Konshisha LGA has struggled with low tax revenue generation, largely due to inadequate accountability in its tax administration system. Issues such as corruption, poor financial reporting, and lack of transparency have contributed to inefficiencies in tax collection and the improper use of collected revenues. This study will examine the role of accountability practices in addressing these challenges and enhancing tax administration in Konshisha LGA.

Aim and Objectives of the Study
The aim of this study is to explore the accountability practices in tax administration in Konshisha LGA, Benue State. The specific objectives are:

  1. To evaluate the current accountability practices in the tax administration system in Konshisha LGA.
  2. To assess the impact of accountability practices on tax revenue generation in Konshisha LGA.
  3. To propose strategies for improving accountability in tax administration to increase revenue generation in Konshisha LGA.

Research Questions

  1. What accountability practices are currently implemented in the tax administration system in Konshisha LGA?
  2. How do accountability practices affect tax revenue generation in Konshisha LGA?
  3. What strategies can be employed to improve accountability in tax administration in Konshisha LGA?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Effective accountability practices enhance tax revenue generation in Konshisha LGA.
  2. Lack of accountability in tax administration contributes to low tax revenue in Konshisha LGA.
  3. Improved accountability practices will increase tax revenue generation in Konshisha LGA.

Significance of the Study
This study will contribute to a better understanding of the role of accountability in tax administration. Its findings will be useful for local government authorities in Konshisha LGA and other LGAs in Benue State, as they seek to improve tax collection and revenue generation processes.

Scope and Limitation of the Study
This study will focus on accountability practices in the tax administration system of Konshisha LGA. Limitations include challenges in obtaining data from local government authorities and potential resistance from tax administrators to disclose sensitive information.
