Background of the Study
Tax administration is a critical function of local government authorities, as it generates revenue needed for public service delivery and development projects. Effective tax administration requires robust accountability practices to ensure that tax revenues are collected, managed, and used appropriately. Konshisha LGA in Benue State has faced challenges related to tax evasion, poor revenue collection, and lack of accountability in its tax administration practices. This study will explore the existing accountability practices in the tax administration process in Konshisha LGA and assess their impact on revenue generation and public service provision.
Statement of the Problem
Konshisha LGA has struggled with low tax revenue generation, largely due to inadequate accountability in its tax administration system. Issues such as corruption, poor financial reporting, and lack of transparency have contributed to inefficiencies in tax collection and the improper use of collected revenues. This study will examine the role of accountability practices in addressing these challenges and enhancing tax administration in Konshisha LGA.
